Latest Energy publications and statistics from DTI (2006)
A range of publications are produced by DTI about the status of energy in the UK. These include current statistics on energy use and renewable energy uptake. Some of these are part of regular energy reporting - such as energy trends, and others have been brought out to specifically assess current enegry activity to compare against national targets.
One regular publication which is now updated is Energy Trends, which has been updated and published 29 June by the Department of Trade and Industry. As well as the usual articles, there is a special feature, looking at Renewable energy in 2005. It includes summary renewables statistics for 2005, which are published for the first time.
Available is "Energy Consumption in the UK" - which brings together statistics from a variety of sources to produce a comprehensive review of energy consumption in the UK since the 1970s. This booklet describes the key trends in energy consumption in the UK since 1970 with a particular focus on trends since 1990. It includes an analysis of the factors driving the changes in energy consumption, the impact of increasing activity, increased efficiency, and structural change in the economy, detailed tables are available in the Energy Consumption tables. The information is presented in five sections covering firstly overall energy consumption, then energy consumption in the transport, domestic, industrial and service sectors. Although Energy Consumption was published in July 2002, the consumption tables were updated in July 2006.
A full set of renewables statistics appears in the Digest of United Kingdom Energy Statistics, published on 27 July 2006. This provides essential information for everyone, from economists to environmentalists and from energy suppliers to energy users. It contains extensive tables, charts and commentary covering all the major aspects of energy, including separate sections on petroleum, gas, coal and electricity. It provides a detailed and comprehensive picture of energy production and use over the last five years, with key series taken back to 1970.
Also available is UK Energy in Brief: 2006 - A free booklet summarising the latest statistics on energy production, consumption and prices in the UK
And "Energy: its impact on the environment and society - 2006" - which draws on statistical information from the Digest of UK Energy Statistics and other DTI and Government statistical publications to draw a picture of the key trends in energy statistics. It includes information on emissions and other environmental consequences from energy production and supply, and the social impacts of domestic competition, service quality issues and fuel poverty. The publication shows, through figures and charts, where we have come from, where we are now, what the policy challenges are, and the current responses
