Energy Efficiency
By being energy efficient we can reduce our energy needs, reduce our contribution to climate change and save money.
There are many incentives available to encourage domestic users to reduce or conserve the amount of energy they use. These incentives include grants for loft or cavity wall insulation and support for buying energy efficient boilers. These grants are often available through your Local Authority, or alternatively home owners can contact their energy supplier direct to find out more about the types of schemes they offer.
In your home, you can save energy and reduce your bills by:
- Insulating cavity walls, loft spaces and hot water cylinders
- Using energy efficient boilers
- Buying energy efficient light bulbs and appliances
- Using draught excluders and curtains
- Installing double glazing
- Switching appliances off standby when not in use
The North East now hosts the Energy Saving Trust North East Advice Centre which is the first port of call for all domestic users looking for advice about energy efficiency.
